About converting PDF pages to JPG
This conversion crosses a line that is worth understanding: it turns pages into pictures. A PDF page is a set of drawing instructions, and rendering it to JPG bakes those instructions into a fixed grid of pixels at 150 DPI. The upside is universal compatibility — a JPG opens anywhere, drops into any slide or document, and needs no reader. The cost is that text stops being text.
That makes JPG the right choice for thumbnails, previews, social posts and pasting a page into a deck, and the wrong choice for anything that needs to stay searchable or be reflowed. JPEG's compression is also lossy and tuned for photographs, so it handles the smooth gradients of an image-heavy page well but can leave faint halos around crisp black text on white. For pages that are mostly text or line art, PNG is the better target.

Frequently asked questions
- What resolution are the images?
- 150 DPI, which gives roughly 1275 × 1650 pixels for a US Letter page. That is comfortable for on-screen viewing and adequate for everyday printing, though below what a commercial printer would want.
- Why can't I select the text any more?
- Because there is no longer any text to select. Rasterising records what the page looks like, not what it says. Keep the source PDF for searching and use the JPGs purely as pictures.
- Should I choose JPG or PNG?
- JPG for pages dominated by photographs, where its compression is efficient and the artefacts are hidden. PNG for pages of text, diagrams or line art, where lossless compression keeps edges clean. Text on white is exactly the case where JPEG artefacts are most visible.
- Can I get just one page as an image?
- The tool renders every page, but you only have to keep what you need — extract the ZIP and take the file for that page. To avoid processing a large document unnecessarily, split it first and convert only the page you want.
